The existence of Karbi oral literature is found in large numbers like in the other literature in the world.The Karbi proverbs are known as 'sar lamthe' which literally means,sar=wise/well experienced person and lamthe=sayings.
The 'sar lamthe'genarally occupies a huge volume of Karbi literature .It comprises the wisedom,observationand inferances to life since time immemorial.Also,it reflcts the Karbi's in fullest formand govern's their lives. Hence,it has an important role in Karbi society and literature.It is difficult to say the exact numbers proverbs and idioms in Karbi society and literature but ,it may be counted in thousands.
Without going to any specific consideration,it will be convrnient classify the 'sar lamthe;in to three categorries as follows-
1.Sar lamthe with serious compodition.
